Week 9

What to expect at 9 weeks

At 9 weeks your baby is the size of a green olive.

Baby is a Fetus
Baby is only an embryo for about one more week! She/He is now about one inch long. The head has straightened out and is more fully developed and the ears are continuing to grow, making baby look more human. Plus, all of baby’s essential organs (heart, brain, kidneys, liver and lungs) have begun to develop. Your soon-to-be-fetus is also making spontaneous movements of her arms and legs now that minuscule muscles are beginning to develop, though you won’t feel any movement for at least another month or two.

Heartbeat
Now is about the time where your practitioner will be able to pick up your baby’s heartbeat via the Doppler or ultrasound machine!

Your body at 9 weeks

Tiredness
Making a baby is hard work and your body is in full fledged prep mode. I am sure that you have experienced your fair share of the first trimester blues (running to the toilet to pee or throw up about 100 times a day) and feeling exhausted all the time is just part of the process. Don’t worry, in a few more weeks you will hit the second trimester and your energy will return to normal until the third trimester of course! If you are feeling very tired try going for a walk and eating a healthy snack.
